Experience
From 1996 until Present
I am currently a Private Court Appointed Attorney (PCAC) in Miami-Dade County, Florida for cases where the Office of the Public Defender and the Office of Regional Counsel have a conflict and cannot represent all defendants in the same case, or they have some other conflict of interest and cannot represent the defendant. I have been approved by the Justice Administration Commission (JAC) and the 11th Judicial Circuit Criminal Defense Review Committee to be included on their list of attorneys selected for appointment in the felony division cases. Additionally, I represent privately retained clients.
From 1990 to 1996
I began my legal experience as an attorney with the Office of the Public Defender in the State of New Jersey, and throughout my employment, I worked at three different counties within the state during my 6 years of employment.
State of New Jersey, Office of the Public Defender, Essex County, Ocean County, and Monmouth County, New Jersey. My duties as a public defender attorney were to represent indigent clients who could not afford an attorney and were facing criminal charges. Over the course of my 6 years as a public defender, I handled a caseload of approximately 250 cases, while continually picking up new cases and resolving other cases through trials or plea negotiations. I gained invaluable courtroom experience and have proceeded to trial in all types of criminal cases, spanning a range of cases from the most simple and non-violent, such as a welfare fraud, to the most difficult, murder charges. Over the course of my work at the public defender's office, I proceeded to trial on approximately 70 felony cases before leaving the office and entering private practice. Also, while attending law school, I worked at the appellate division of the public defender's office and prepared numerous briefs for appeals on cases that had gone to trial and the clients were seeking review from the appellate courts.
